VEXING THE BELIEVERS SOUL

By Andy Neckar
-----------------------------------------------------------------
On December 29, 1998 the Fort Worth Star Telegram religious section reported on the death of a North Carolina preacher who spent a lifetime reaching out to people in need.

Gordon Weekley was a preacher and leader of a Christian center for substance abusers in Charlotte, N.C.. He shared the story of how he conquered his own prescription drug habit, in hopes it would help people conquer their addictions.

The article tells of how he died at the age of 77, as the death certificate states, as a "consequence of alcohol intoxication" last month in an Asheville motel room. It tells of how he became head of the rehab center in 1977 where God had come to his aid in 1976. He spent 18 years at the Rebound rehabilitation center in Charlotte introducing God to troubled souls.

This report, however, is not about this man. I said the above to tell you about the woman he married just after midnight on New Years Day 1996. He and Jacqulyn Weekley were married in the H. Gordon Weekley Chapel at Providence Baptist.

THIS IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS REPORT.
The Star Telegram says this of Weekley's wife.

The Rev. Jacqulyn Weekley, 46, is a United Methodist pastor who performs liturgical dance and drama and leads workshops in creative worship. She was assigned to Lake Junaluska Assembly, so the Weekleys relocated to the town of Clyde, outside Asheville.

These are my comments.

This woman has no biblical authority to be holding a position as pastor of a church. Rather than "serving God" this woman is in "disobedience to God". This "one paragraph" tells me she is "entertaining goats" instead of "feeding sheep".

Does Matt 28:19-20 say; Go ye therefore, and teach all nations in creative worship?

Christ said to teach all nations all right, but He "also" tells us "what" to teach them. He says we should be: "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:"

Tell me, in what part of God's Word are we told to do what this United Methodist "priestess" is doing? Does God tell us to "preach the gospel" or perform liturgical dance and drama?

Liturgical dance-Some synonyms for liturgical are, sacramental, consecrated, sacred, holy, and ritual (ceremonial)

You will find much of this liturgy in the Roman Catholic Church and different forms of Paganism. In Catholicism you will find Holy Orders, the Consecrated Communion Wafer, the Sacrament of the Mass, Sacred Relics, (bones or articles of 'dead saints") and many other ceremonial forms of devotion

The hula is a Hawaiian dance that uses imitative and symbolic gestures and sinuous body movements and is accompanied by chanting. Originally a religious dance performed by priestesses and warriors, the hula was forbidden by 19th-century Christian missionaries and survives today in radically altered form.

Some forms of Paganism engage in orgiastic fertility rites. Sacred prostitution has existed in India since classical Hindu times. Temple prostitution, in which girls are dedicated to a deity, has continued into the 20th century.

Ritual, or religious prostitution, known as fertility rites, existed in Jesus day and continues even today. Processions and dances also play a fundamental part in fertility rites. Fertility rites are ceremonies of a magic-religious nature performed to ensure the continuity of life. From earliest time humans have performed these rites in an attempt to control the environment. Expressed as invocations, incantations, prayers, hymns, processions, dances, and sacred dramas, these ritual activities were believed to be closely connected with the processes of nature.

Drama-Some synonyms for drama are, show, play, stage, and theater.
There is much "dramatic" teachings in God's Word, but for the life of me I cannot find any "drama" as defined by the UMC.

There is much drama going on in the UMC all right. It is disturbing to think just what is becoming of the United Methodist Denomination? (I understand that Christ said this would come about, so please don't write and ask me why I am surprised. I am not. Just vexed.)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Joke Is On Them.
(In more ways than one)

There is a popular tract that shows the appearance of a folded five, or twenty dollar bill with some religious sayings on the back side. Tract passers like to leave these tracts laying around so folks will think they have "found some money". The following is the back side of one of those religious tracts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disappointed?
You won't be if you will let Jesus Christ become the Lord of your life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

ASK JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR LIFE AND YOU CAN HAVE PEACE AND JOY.

How can I become a Christian? Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart. (Romans 10:9-10)

You are loved-Romans 5:8 You are loved-1 John 4:9

JESUS IS LORD
------------------------------------------------------------------
NOW-let's examine this "gospel tract" closely. What saves-accepting Christ as Lord of your life, or repentance toward God and believing the gospel of Christ-in faith.

Acts 20:20-21 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house, Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 alone does not comprise the gospel of Christ. A selected isolated portion of scripture does not evident the gospel of salvation. We are told to BELIEVE and REPENT.

Believe what?
1 Cor 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

It takes more than saying Christ died for sin, that He was buried and that He rose from the dead. We are to tell it "according to the scriptures". In other words folks, we are to tell ALL of the gospel ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES. We are to tell HOW and WHY.

We are to repent of what?
We are to repent according to the scripture. Scripture says we are to repent of our sins before God. The Old Testament law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. Would you send your children to a school where the teacher says to them. "You are here to learn math." "You need math in your life." "Without it you will be a failure". Now suppose that's ALL she taught them? Would you then expect them to know math?

Did Jesus Christ come into the world to bring JOY and PEACE into your life?

Is Jesus Christ the great peacemaker or the great troublemaker? Christ came to make peace between GOD and MAN-not MAN and MAN. Yes, Christ is the great and ONLY peacemaker between God and man.

Eph 2:16 And that he might reconcile both (Jew and Gentile) unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Christ did not come to reconcile man to man. He came to set at variance man against man.

Matt 10:34-36 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Tell me-what lost (unsaved) person can discern Romans 10:9-10 in isolation? Will the average lost person have a Bible to look up the reference?

Looking at the two ending scripture references.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I Jn 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

What about sinners? Why did Christ die for them? Many folks are pretty much moral people. Did Christ die for them? What will the recipient of this tract think? Will they think; "That must be one of those Christians--I guess they mean well, but things are going pretty good for me. I have few disappointments if any, and I am reasonably happy and peaceful. Hey-nobody's perfect. Christians too, have their ups and downs. They can't tell me they don't. I know some that are "worst off" than I am." OR-the recipients may think that they can "ask Jesus into their life" for selfish reasons. Hey-they're tired of disappointments. They need to "get their life together". A little peace and joy would feel good for a change. They may "try religion". It sure won't hurt, they may say, the way things are going here lately.

WHAT CAN I SAY?
It would be better if they had not received the tract. Those playing in the middle of the highway possessing a false sense of security are in more danger that others. At least the "others" may be alert to warnings of an on-coming truck barreling down on them.

TEN REASONS WHY A BAPTIST SHOULD NOT OBSERVE CHRISTMAS.
[I took this off of a "Landmark Baptist Church" Web Site. I believe you all know how I feel about "Landmarkism" and "Baptist Brideism".]

1. Learn not the way of the heathen.
(Jer 10:2) Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

2. Little children keep yourselves from idols.
(1 John 5:21) Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

3. That which is highly esteemed by men is abomination to God.
(Luke 16:15) And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

[Editor] Isn't Sunday highly esteemed by these Bible Obstinates? We Bible Believers know we have Biblical Liberty to agree or disagree.
***See endnote

4. Abstain from all appearance of evil.
(1 Th 5:22) Abstain from all appearance of evil.

5. Come out from among them and be ye separate saith the Lord.
(2 Cor 6:17) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

6. God is to be worshipped in Spirit and in TRUTH.
(John 4:24) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

7. For the customs of the people are vain.
(Jer 10:3) For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.

8. Every one of us shall give an account of himself to God.
(Rom 14:12) So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

9. Don't give a brother an occassion to fall.
(Rom 14:13) Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

10. We should not be an unrighteous witness.
(Exo 23:1) Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

MY COMMENTS TO THEM AND TO YOU
In order to fully keep these Baptist Ten Commandments we would have to keep a few more concerning Christ.

1. Let's keep Christ out of Christmas--Pagan holiday (already preached)
2. Let's keep Christ out of Easter--Pagan holiday (already preached)
3. Let's keep Christ out of Sunday--Pagan holiday (do you want to preach this?)
4. Let's keep Christ out of the World--Pagan world. (or this?)
5. Let's keep Christ out of unbelievers--they are Pagans. (or this?)

Note-the following is already being preached.

1. Bring pagans into the organized churches-(Christ is not in many of them)
2. Metamorphose spiritual food into carnal food. (Hey--pagans got to eat too)
3. Preach a false doctrine. Baptist Church Landmarkism.

Remember the "Judaizers"? (Galatians) Well, the "Christianizers" try and take away our liberty in Christ. They try and get us to esteem "their" days, and "their" laws. We must go to "their" church on Sunday. We must tithe to "them". We must obey the rule of the "Protestant hierarchy". They attempt to put us in bondage, and claim as the Roman Church does, that they are the "only one true church." They do this to put the "fear of God" into folks as an aid to coerced "church membership".

Rom 14:4-6. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.(KJV)

Hey-if we gotta preach, let's preach against FALSE DOCTRINE not against our LIBERTY IN CHRIST.

My stand on "Christian Liberty" does not endorse unscriptural Christmas plays or church dramas, or unscriptural "anything". Let us not use our liberty to sin.(Gal 5:13) Read these verses concerning Christian liberty. Gal 2:4; 5:1; James 2:12; 1 Peter 2:15-16; and 2 Peter 2:19.

Read 1 Cor 23-33 and remember it says we shouldn't shear another mans conscience, but another man's conscience is no measure to our conduct. What "one" thinks unlawful is not thereby made unlawful to "all". Paul says; why should I, by using the liberty I have, give occasion to those who are scandalized to speak evil of me?"

I believe there is a "limit" to forfeiting one's liberty to another. The days I esteem "in my home" with "like believers" because of my "Biblical Christian liberty", is not a matter of "worldwide" Christian scrutiny.

Notice I say, "Biblical Christian liberty", not "opinionated Christian liberty". We must not bend or alter what God says is our liberty.

*** Sun Worship and Sunday. The influence of sun worship with its "Sun's Day" provides the most plausible explanation for the popularity of Sunday. The cult of Sol Invictus–the Invincible Sun became "dominant in Rome and in other parts of the Empire from the early part of the second century A.D. The dies natalis solis Invicti (the birthday of the Invincible Sun) was chosen as the "Christian Christmas", and the "first day of the week" was named "Sunday" in honor of the sun god.

Sunday worship took on new dimensions in the fourth century as the Christian Emperor of Rome, Constantine, proclaimed the believers' day of worship (the first weekday) to be a holiday (A.D. 321). However, instead of using the term that Christians used, the Lord's Day, he continued with a term, "Dies Solis" (The Day of the Sun) which the Romans had already used for a couple centuries in homage to their worship of the sun god. Prior to his Christian profession in 312, Constantine was a pagan worshiper, his favorite deity being the Unconquered Sun, and throughout the remainder of his life, his understanding of the Christian faith was less than perfect and never did fully extract himself from pagan philosophy. He was apparently unable to clearly distinguish between the Father of Jesus Christ and the sun deity, and while he sanctioned the Christian's day of worship, his title for it left a lasting legacy to the pagan sun god, what is known on our calendar as Sunday.

Folks-should I publish 10 reasons why a Christian should not celebrate Sunday? A rebuke of the "Christmas Holiday" is just as absurd as a rebuke of "Sunday Worship" would be. 'nough said.

No Blood-No Remission!!
by Pastor Ross L. Range
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Man's greatest need is to be forgiven of his sins. This can only be done through faith in the blood of Jesus. "...without shedding of blood is no remission" (Heb. 9:22). "...when I see the blood, I will pass over you..." (Ex. 12:13).

There are a lot of people today who try to add to the finished work of Jesus Christ. There are those who say that one must be baptized or join the church, or hold out faithful to the end, in order to be saved. There are those who get people to say they believe in Christ and then say that they are saved. There is more to being saved than just a simple profession. There must be a conviction of sin and an acceptance by faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Many people are deceived by Satan into believing that they are saved when they are not really born again. The Bible is clear in the fact that it is only through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, in His complete and perfect sacrifice, that alone is the way people are saved.

Redeemed Through Blood
As the scripture says, "...we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace" (Eph. 1:7). To be redeemed means to be bought back. The price has been paid and it is through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Peter reminds us of this when he says, "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold... But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" (1 Peter 1:18-19).

Justified by Blood
To be justified means to be declared free. We know the Bible teaches that all are sinners. all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, there is none righteous, no, not one. No one deserves to be saved because of his goodness, but thank God, Jesus Christ died for sinners, shed His precious blood because of His love for us. The scripture says, "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." (Rom. 5:9). the word justified literally means "just as if I had never sinned." The blood of Jesus Christ is what has paid for our sins.

Washed in His Blood
There are some who believe that baptism washes away sins. This is not scriptural. The Bible says, "Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood" (Rev. 1:5). When one hears the Word, the Holy Spirit takes the word and convicts or sin, of righteousness, of judgment and works godly sorrow which brings repentance and faith; faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Our sins are washed away in His blood.

Made Nigh by Blood
Man is alienated from God, strangers from the covenant of promise, no hope without God in the world! "But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ" (Eph. 2:13). Jesus broke down the middle wall of partition and makes the way possible for us to enter into the very presence of God because He has sprinkled His blood on the mercy seat as an atonement for our sins. Therefore, we are made nigh by His blood.

Sanctified by Blood
The word sanctify means set apart from our sins, set apart from the world through the blood of Jesus Christ. As Paul says, "Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate" (Heb. 13:12). Jesus was crucified outside the city of Jerusalem on that old hill called Calvary in order that we might be set apart from our sins. He shed His own blood on that cross. What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus? What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus? We are sanctified by His blood.

Peace through Blood
Man is at odds with God. We have sinned against Him. We have been alienated from Him, but thank God through the blood of Jesus Christ, we can have peace with Him. Paul says, "And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself" (Col. 1:20).

Cleansed through Blood
God's children are redeemed through the blood and justified through the blood, washed in His blood, made high by the blood, sanctified by the blood, and have peace through the blood and daily we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Whenever we sin, we plead the blood of Jesus. For John says, "If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7). In other words, we stay in fellowship with Jesus Christ our Saviour by daily trusting in the cleansing blood. We all sin every day, but "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (verse 9). This means that the daily walk of the children of God are cleansed by the blood of Jesus.

Conscience Purged by Blood
When one understands the real meaning of being forgiven our sins, and having the Spirit of God living within us as children of God, one will want to live for Jesus. The Holy Spirit puts that desire in our heart and Paul reminds us that it wasn't the blood of goats and calves, but by His own blood He has obtained eternal redemption for us and says, "how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Heb. 9:14).

Just think of it, Christ died for my sins. Jesus shed His precious blood, gave His all that I might be saved from the guilt and penalty and finally from the presence of sin. I owe Him everything I am.

Bought with a Price
I do not belong to myself. If you are saved you do not belong to yourself. you are bought by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. This should, and will cause us to want to live for Him. As Paul says, "Ye are not your own? for ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Cor. 6:19-20).

What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus? What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus? So, there is no remission outside the blood of Jesus. You cannot mix blood and water, or blood and church membership, or blood and works, or any other thing, simply through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ do we have remission of our sins. Praise God for salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ! If you have not received Him by faith in the blood, why not today?

A Tale of Two Sisters
The Tragedy of Ecumenical Unfaithfulness

With heart so kind and gentle,And sympathetic eye;
With touching deep affection,And loyal, tender tie-
Was LOVE betrothed to DOCTRINETo hold him all her days,
And walk the path of gladnessUnited in His ways.

Her younger sister alsoHad qualities so fair
Of caring, selfless, kindness,And warmth without compare;
Thus UNITY was drawn toThe husband of her youth;
And pledged herself foreverTo be the bride of TRUTH.

But TIME, with bitter envy,Across the testing years.
Pursued the slow erosionOf happiness to tears;
Till LOVE begin to wearyOf DOCTRINE'S pleasant voice,
And UNITY grew cold toThe partner of her choice.

Then LOVE begin to noticeThe charms of HERESY,
And awed by his opinions,She wanted to be free;
And UNITY perceived thatHer virtues were desired
By many, many othersWhose ways she so admired.

At length, two precious unions,So promising, so blest,
Were darkened by delusion,Disloyalty, unrest;
Till came the day of sorrows,And rendering vows of youth,
When LOVE divorced her DOCTRINEAnd UNITY her TRUTH.

Preaching the "Religious Gospel"
God wants every Christian to be rich in every way, says Paul Crouch, head of the Trinity Broadcasting Network. He wrote in PTL (10/98): "How, pray tell, can the Body of Christ obey God's call to [set up His kingdom] if we are poor, broke, in debt, sick and afflicted? God wants you and me to be rich in every way" (Calvary Contender, 11/1/98).

[Editor] Religion is a very lucrative business nowadays. The "religious leaders" preach that God wants Christians to be rich by giving money to "them" and making "them" rich. Yeah, folks, if the seed money doesn't return a hundred fold to the self-seeking "investor", these money-grubbers claim the fault is "lack of faith". But if the lavish income should dwindle somewhat they simply resort to even more passionate pleas and ludicrous lies.

After praying, I can tell them that the kingdom they are setting up is their father's kingdom. (John 8:44) The kingdom of the anti-christ.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Satanic "Profits"
E. Bernard Jordan, a self-proclaimed prophet, is charging $365 for personal prophecies from God. Jordan, 39, is the pastor of Zoe Ministries Church on the Upper West Side of New York City, and he was once viewed as a mainstream charismatic. Recently he has developed a fondness for titles, robes, and an Orthodox-style gold miter on his head. His church members sometimes kiss his ring to honor his position.

"When I receive your $365 wisdom seed, I'll go into my prayer closet and prepare a personal word for the next 12 months of your life," Jordan declares in his Zoe Ministries magazine. "You'll receive your word on cassette tape, delivered to your home or office where you will begin to give birth to your prophecy." In an interview with Charisma (11/98), he said he believes "the church should be doing what the psychics are doing" by offering personal guidance in life.

Jordan recently trained a band of 300 prophets to serve in a new prophetic order that God told him to start.

[Editor] Amazing. What a service offered to those why refuse to read God's Word, the Bible. Folks can work for a week to earn this "wisdom seed" money because they don't have time to read the Bible and see what the Great Foreteller (God of course) has to say about their future. For only a single solitary dollar a day these "profits" of Satan will reveal tidbits of ear tickling tidings. Twelve months of extrasensorosity of their lives is more than enough for these folks. These will be no "eternal life" for any of them.

Worn Out Cliché's
That's between me and God. Leave it to God. It's none of your business.

John 17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

John 20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

God left the preaching, the teaching and the dealing with sin to his ministers. Dealing with sin IS our business. Those qualified are command to judge the brethren. (1 Cor 5:12;11:31) We are commanded to reprove sin in the believer, (1Timothy 5:20) with authority. (Titus 2:15)

CNV NOTES

I don't have much to say in this section this months folks. We are still having our Thursday night Bible study and a Sunday evening Lord's Supper service in my home.

I hope to have some news of the local Bible Chapel I am attempting to plant here in Hico. Please pray that if it be God's will this may be accomplished. Also pray for me as I go about preaching the Good News of the Gospel of Christ to friends and neighbors, as Satan tries to hinder my work by people you would least expect.

Friday evening, two weeks ago, I led Larry and Patricia to the Lord. They are long-time friends, and I gave each of them a KJV Bible and took them to visit a local "sound church" in their area which is about 60 miles North of Hico. I will hold a Bible Study in their home around twice a month, in addition to what I do now.

I lead a young woman to the Lord last Thursday night. Bible Study went into overtime that night. PRAISE GOD.

There will be more on "Worn Out Cliché's" coming in the February newsletter.

See you next month if Jesus tarries.

We Much Earnestly Contend For The Faith.-Jude 1:3
