2 Peter Chapter 2
2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
Peter says, " as 'there shall be' false teachers among you". It didn't take them long to get there, as Jude say they are already there.
Jude 1:3-4 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. For "there are certain men" crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, (aspiration- covetousness - greed) and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lets speak of a few who deny the Lord that bought them. First let's consider just who is this Lord that bought them?
1 Cor 6:20 For ye are "bought" with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Cor 7:23 Ye are "bought" with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
1 Pet 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed (bought) with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Now--denying Christ is not to say that He never existed or that He was not the Son of God or that He did not die for our sins. No--there are MANY that deny the "virgin" birth, the "bodily" resurrection, and that Jesus "never" sinned. There are MANY that believe "it was not finished" when Jesus said, "it is finished". (John 19:30)
These bring in sects that will damn one to everlasting hell. Heresy means sect, and other words for sect are, church, following, denominations, ect.
It is NOT finished the Roman Church teaches. You need prayers to Mary and a bunch of dead people (the RC saints) You need the mass and the sacraments. The Church of Christ says you need "water baptism", ect. These are "damnable sects/heresies".
2 Pet 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
How 'bout, "and MOST shall follow the sects destructive-hell bound ways/teachings"
The truth of God's Word will be blasphemed. It will be vilified, berated, reproved and tongue-lashed. It will be spoken evil of.
2 Pet 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
These false prophets/teachers will be greedy, and with false words/teachings make merchandise of you. They will use you to satisfy their greed. They will say, give "me" and "my" church all your money/tithes.
Their judgment is not lingering in the eyes of God, and the results of their judgment are not undecided. THEY ARE ALREADY CONDAMNED. God has turned they over to their sins. They have passed the temporary season, or period of repentance. Their doom is now firm and solid.
Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
2 Cor 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
God offers salvation only so long. After repeated attempts God is no longer longsuffering. He turns them over to their sins and gives up on them.
2 Pet 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
If God has "given up" on the angels that sinned, how much more so will He eventually give up on Christ rejecters?
2 Pet 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
If God "gave up" on the "whole world" but for Noah and his family, how much more so will He eventually give up on Christ rejecters?
2 Pet 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
If God gave up on "two whole cities", how much more so will He eventually give up on Christ rejecters?
2 Pet 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
See--God saved Lot who lived in these evil cities. Lot was a believer in an evil city/church, and we will see the result of Lots decision to live in these evil cities, when we have a "study on Lot" after this chapter of Peter.
Even though Lot was oppressed with the filthy behavior of the people of these cities, "he still continued to live among them".
2 Pet 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
Lot is saved and his "soul" is oppressed from day to day, but he is grieving the Spirit and refusing to obey the Spirit which tells us to "separate". Lot is living among tempters and he is "reckoned righteous" by God but he is not "godly", that is prayerful and devout.
2 Pet 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
God knows HOW to deliver the "godly" out of temptation, but Lot was still there. So maybe Lot wasn't "godly", just "reckoned righteous". Lot wasn't reserved unto the Day of Judgment. God also knew How to rescue Lot. He sent two angels to get him out of the city before judgment came.
2 Pet 2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
God knows how to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: CHIEFLY those that walk after the flesh and hate rulers. Rulers are appointed by God (Rom 3:1-7) and we should not "hate them", but "pray for them"
2 Pet 2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
Even angels, which are much greater in power and might, do not speak evil of dignities, but we curse our governments and we bind Satan and "command" him to do this, that, and the other.
Jude 1:9-11 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
2 Pet 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
Look at the similarities between Jude and Peter here. Natural brute beasts are made to be taken and destroyed, and so are these people who play with the devil in crusades and in song, and who slay people in the spirit, ect.
2 Pet 2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
These people shall receive their reward. They take pleasure in disobeying God by strutting around the stage preaching damnation for the devil and casting him out of communities and people.
Verse 10 says that they are presumptuous and self-willed. They are overly bold and arrogant in their style and manner
2 Pet 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
This is a picture of the moral instability in the churches today. They are adulterers. They are "unfaithful". They are "disloyal" to God. They cannot stop from luring-seducing and enticing those wear in the faith, in mind, and fickle at heart.
They have put their heart into financial compensation and large and popular churches. Some of these were at one time sound in their preaching, but have fallen into the way of Balaam/disobedience. Even Balaams donkey could see what Balaam couldn't. (Numbers 22:25}
These prophets/preachers are in it for the financial return and they misuse the funds they receive. They are cursed children. They are damned.
2 Pet 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
Because of financial reward these preachers have given up the Truth of God and have given the people with itching ears exactly what they want to hear.
These people LOVE the preeminence and the money.
2 Pet 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
These are not "saved" false prophets whom we should merely rebuke. "Darkness" is reserved for them "forever".
2 Pet 2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
Matt 22:13-14 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and "cast him into outer darkness"; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not "abide in darkness".
True believers are not in darkness.
2 Pet 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
They have this "feel good" gospel. They allure with "physical healing" and a "hundred fold" return of money given to the ministry. They allure through much desire for money and popularity, but those that are saved will escape from them in time. They will come out from among them, "one at a time" and "here and there".
2 Pet 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
They promise them freedom/salvation, but they themselves are still under bondage to sin/lost in sin. They are overcome with greed and so are the servants of greed. One cannot serve (be servants of) two masters.
Matt 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (wealth- money)
2 Pet 2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
Even the unsaved will be "better off" in hell, (a smaller degree of punishment) if they had not known Christ, that to have the knowledge of Him and fall back into immorality.
2 Pet 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
If they are aware of the "law" and "try and obey the law", they are "not saved", (Rom 1:16; Acts 20:21) the "degree of punishment" will not be as severe ( Matt 16:27; 2 Tim 4:14; Rev 20:13) as the grievous law breakers such as Hitler and Stalin and the Roman Pope, ect.
At the age of 14, Stalin entered the Tiflis Theological Seminary .The next year he left the seminary without graduating. (Multimedia Encyclopedia 1992 Edition) He once knew the way of righteousness, but he turned from the holy commandment delivered unto him.
2 Pet 2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
The organized denominational church system is returning again to her vomit and wallowing in her mire.
