Decorating Adultery
Attaching a ribbon to a piece of dung does not change the ingredients of the mixture.

Many church folks that have divorced their spouses claim different situations as the cause/reason for the adultery/divorce. I know of one Southern Baptist man here in Hico that has been married four times now.  His adultery of his last (third) wife/woman, he claims, was because she was into witchcraft.  Now tell me, where do you find “witchcraft” in this passage of Holy Scripture?

Matt 5:32 - But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away (divorce) his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

Can you read into this scripture any IF’S, AND’S or BUT’S other than fornication?  Read closely now.  Be careful now.  You may call that spouse of yours, your “ex”.  You may call he/she your “unequal yoke” or whatever.

Unequal yoke does have a” nice biblical ring” to it, doesn’t it. Why-- aren’t we commanded to separate from an unequal yoke?

Please do not attempt to make righteous the sin of adultery by referring to the following passage.

2 Cor 6:14  - Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Matt 5:32 has “absolutely nothing” to do with 2 Cor 6:14.  Sounds a lot better that adultery though, doesn’t it.

THIS is what the Lord says about unbelieving spouses.

1 Cor 7:10-11 - And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

1 Cor 7:12-16 - But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace. For what knowest thou, O wife, whether thou shalt save thy husband? or how knowest thou, O man, whether thou shalt save thy wife?

In 1 Cor 7:10-11 the word “depart” means to “separate” and to NOT remarry (commit adultery)

In 1 Cor 7:12-16 the words “put her away” and “depart” means to “separate” and to NOT remarry (commit adultery)

1 Cor 7:39 - The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

The law binds the wife and husband “both” as long as the spouse lives “except” in the case of “fornication” ONLY

Rom 7:1-6 - Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

This applies to the Believer (new born again creature 2 Cor 5:17) and Christ ONLY.  When we come to repentance towards God and Faith towards the Lord Jesus Christ we DIE (Rom 6:7-8) and are BORN AGAIN. (1 Peter 1:23) Spiritually we are free to marry again and we are married TO CHRIST. (Rom 7:4)

When a “husband and wife” come together in sexual intercourse they become ONE FLESH. (Gen 2:24-) When an “unmarried man and woman” come together in sexual intercourse they too, become one flesh. (1 Cor 6:15-16) When a person comes to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, THEY become a PART/MEMBER of HIS BODY.  They become ONE with Christ in SPIRIT. (1 Cor 6:17)

So many people are applying “biblically correct scripture” to support their “politically correct views” in order to decorate and make sweet smelling their sins. But a sin is a sin is a sin.
